NEW SOUTH WALES VICTORS

HOBART, May 5,

New South Wales retained the eightoar championship of Australia and the King's Gold Cup, in a race rowed on the Derwent River, winning by four lengths from Western Australia, with Queensland third and Tasmania fourth. Victoria and South Australia had their bp^ts swamped.

.The crews had a battle against a head wind, with the result that the time for the three miles was 19min 36$ sec, the slowest since 1884. After the first mile New South Wales took the lead, and although Western Australia made a bold challenge over the last mile, they were unable to «atch the title-holders.

Herbert Turner was untroubled to retain the Australian sculling title, winning by twenty lengths from E. Beauehamp (Tasmania), with C. Pcrler (Victoria) third.
