WELLINGTON CLUB
The Wellington Harrier Club held its maiden handicap race over a distance of two miles 1000 yards at Miramar. There £as a large attendance of spectators. Officials for the race were: Starter and to °% H r- F- Wilton; handicapper, air. **; , L- Whelan; timekeeper, Mr. W. vvnelan; stewards, Messrs. K. Newson •« °^ n' en' an<l R- Spence; trail layers, o. _ Melvinnon and .T. Mulcahy'. Owing to tile unfavourable weather only eight runners faced ' the starter. The limit man, J. Drawbridge, held liis lead until half the. distance had been covered, when W. Owens took charge and came on to win comfortably from H. Brady ..with Drawbridge . j:-fc beating W. Allan tor third place. Fastest time was made by W. Allan. The following were tha garters with their handicaps and timesVV. Owens (lmin 20sec), 16min 6sec; H iirady (50see), lomin 47sec; J. Drawbridge (2min), 17min 18see;, W. Allan (scr) lomin 21see; E. Willetts • (30see), lomin oosee; K. Wickham (lmin 20sec), 17min 20sec; Raven (lmin 40sec), 19min 4see; Barnhill (Iwin 20see), 18min 40sec. ' Next week the club is to be the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. O'Brien/ Te Whiti Street, and will not hold its run from Igland Bay as previously announced.
