TATES GOLD MINING. The secretary of Tates Gold Mining Company, Ltd., reports a return of ■lOoz 12dwt.-13gr.oE retorted gold from a crushing of 65 tons of quartz. . . NEVIS DIESEL. Ihe secretary of the Nevis Diesel Electric; Dredging. Company, Ltd., reports that advice has been received from the dredgemaster that the dredge is now working to a depth of. only 20ft on a cut 50yds wide and is heading in' a south-easterly direction straight for the No. 3 bore put dowu by Mr. W. W. Begg, engineer for Investigations, Ltd. This bore gave values of 2s 3d per cubic yard taking gold at £4 -per ounce,-and is 10 chains ahead of the dredge which is two chains and a half from the western hills. No trouble is being experienced with the dredge or the other machin°r'ri rm weather at the claim is still mild. Xhe wash-up was Goz 15dwt for 127 hours' dredging. . : NEVIS SLUICING. Directors of, Nevis Sluicing-Claims, Ltd. visited the company's claim during last weekend. The forge for riveting, etc is now ready. Four hundred and eighty feet, of loin pipes, 40ft of new 3ft iron boxes and ripples, together with a considerable quantity of tools and equipment are on the ground. The directors report that they were very satisfied with the thoroughness with which the work had been carried out When the balance of the plant is installed, the lower face of the claim, where the wash is 20ft deep, can be opened up and tne full supply of water utilised to t|ie greatest advantage. During the night and at.weekends, the water is turned into the race and sluicing is carried on at the open face of the claim where one man is at present on stoning work during the day. A washup from the intermittent sluicing done will take place within three or four weeks. WETHERSTONES. The secretary of the Wetherstones Gold Mining Company, Ltd., reports that inclined shaft reached conglomerate-schist contact Now .stopped. Development drives along the contact being started. Total depth of shaft is 12.17 ft, but development work is being started at 1200 ft, where contact was first met. A drive north advanced 20ft, and from this a drive east aown to the dip has been commenced. This it is considered, is the quickest way of prospecting towards main gutter between eastern and western "reefs." This new development work is, being done by explosives, which so shattered the ground that it will be possible to take fullest advantage of the gravity tower and sluice boxes for saving values.
