AVIATION NEWS
To provide flying practice for qualified pilots when otherwise no flying would be done competitions have been arranged at Rongotai on recent weekends when weather conditions have been anything but ideal. For these "bad weather" competitions an instructor is carried in the aeroplane, but of course any assistance from the instructor disqualifies the competitor. Yesterday afternoon a contest of this description was held among a few hardy pilots whom even "yesterday's weather could not keep away from the aerodrome. \
An imaginary "swamp" was marked out on the aerodrome and pilots had to land over and clear of this and short of the boundary fence. Flight-Lieut. Bolt watched the proceedings from the spare seat, and Mr. Liverton secured first place in the contest". This morning Mr. E. Harvey arrived at Rongotai flying his sports Avian ZK-ACM. Mr. Harvey recently acquired this machine from Mr. Eon Kirkup on the hitter's appointment as assistant instructor at Christehurch.
Mr. Ha<rey expects to leave again for Auckland this afternoon.
