HEARING OF APPEAL

LIBERTY OF THE SUBJECT

An application for a fixture for th» hearing of Nelson's appeal against, his conviction in Samoa on a 'charge of sedition, was made by the SolicitorGeneral (Mr. A. Fair, K.C.) before the first and second divisions of the Court of Appeal today. Mr. Fair said that the case had. been stated and had now reached New Zealand. The Crown was anxious to facilitate as early a hearing as possible in order that Mr. Nelson might have an early determination. . The Chief .Justice (Sir ' Michael Myers): In an appeal in which the liberty of the subject is involved we must give an early hearing. The Chief Justice said that April 19 would be set down for the hearing of the appeal. : ■ ,
