Sales of articles left in, trains in Britain present a problemin human for-' getfulness. How did sixty sailors, for example, contrive to overlook the recent loss of their trousers? Were the men •svho lost five morning coats, eight dress: coats, and one frock coat, members of the same"forgetful and probably cheer-" ful party? Other losses are bicycles and poramtralators, gramophones, saxophones, 52 razors, Axminster carpet 50 yards long, a bottle of whisky, and 72 garden fakes. Twerfty-suc unfortunates left their falso teeth. Sticks, gloves, mackintoshes, and hats - are the common stuff of forgetfulness, but umbrellas still bear off the-palm for numbers —40H"> women's and1 only 2951 men's. These items appeared in the catalogue nf the Southern Railway's annual clearance sale of articles left in ..trains.
