PIPING COMPETITION

Three years ago Mr. R. H. Nimmo presented a cup to the Wellington Caledonian Society for annual competition between its members. Each year there has been an increase in the number of competitors, and for this year's competition the entry was a record one. When the competition took place on Saturday evening there was the largest attendance yet assembled to listen to the skirl of the pipes.

Messrs. A. Barclay, A. G. Dickson, and J. McCallum acted as judaes. There were five competitors for the Nimmo Cup, each of whom played a march, a slow march, strathspey, and reel.

The awards were as follows:—C. Stewart, 1; D. Scott. 2; J. Currie, 3. C. Stewart also won the A grade competition among the band members, played concurrently with the cup.

In the competition for the B grade of the band, G. Arthur secured first prize, with Piper Wills second.

The cup was presented by Mr. R. H. Nimmo. and thanks were accorded the judges by acclamation.

The judges enunciated their system of awarding points, and also imparted valuable information to contestants. After supper there was dancing, Sir. J. Stirling acting as M.O
