BOYS' ASSOCIATION
Mr. W. R. Orsborn presided at the fortnightly meeting of the Wellington Boys Cricket Association. There were also present Messrs. C. G. Scorgie, B A ■Mabin, T. McPhee, R. McLean, B. Waller! and W. Longstaff (secretary). It was decided to award representative match certificates to players who played agamst the Levin District High School and the Palmerston North High School. The winners of the various grades were declared as follows:—First grade. Boys' Institute\B; third grade, Boys' Institute; tourth grade. Boys' Institute A. Trophies won during the season are to be presented on Monday, April 16, when the championship cups and awards for the best batting and bowling performance in each grade are to be made. Averages are to be forwarded by club secretaries not later than the first mail on Thursday morning, April ja r wnich date no recognition will be made of any averages, the'sub-committee meeting the following day to make the awards.
Mr.- W. J. R. Christophersen,. who had been coaching the players, 0.. Monday afternoonsat Prince of Wales Park, si»nined his intention of presenting two books on cricket, one for each of the two grades to the captains who showed the best allround ability to lead their teams A similar offer was made by Mr. R. Osborn for the other grade captain. As a finale to the season a representative match has been arranged for the Kilbirnie Ao. 2 wicket next Saturday. The association s. representatives will be under the direction of Mr. W. I Christophersen who will play; and Mr. B. A. Mabin will lead the secondary school team. The match will commence at 10 a.m.
The coaching scheme for the association was under discussion at the meeting, and it was decided to send a letter of thanks to Mr. Chnstophersen for his splendid efforts in this connection, and the offer made,to conduct a coaching school during the winter season is to be taken up enthusiastically, with selected players from each of the grades, in -anticipation of further' entries being made for the 1934-35 season. By this means it is hoped to be able to train future representative players Many leading cricketers have passed through the ranks of the Boys' Association in the past twenty-five years; they include one first eleven Australian player and about twenty New Zealand representative players.
