TITAHI BAY BUSES
ANOTHER PROTEST
REFUSAL OF LICENCE
A further meeting in connection with the refusal of the No. 6 District Licensing Authority to renew the licence of Mr. J. Hunter on the Titahi Bay bus run was held last evening at Johnsonville. The Assembly Hall was filled to capacity, and a number of people, both residents of Johnsonville and Gleuside, were unable to gain admittance. The Rev. J. F. Martin presided, and the meeting was addressed by several speakers, including Messrs. J. Daly, F. Broom, J. Green, and Boyd.
The following resolution was passed unanimously:—"That this meeting expresses surprise and registers its protest at the action of the Transport Licensing Authority in depriving Mr. Hunter of his licence. For six and a half years Mr. Hunter has operated the Titahi Bay bus service with satisfaction to us all. We view with considerable concern the disadvantages which the creation of a monopoly in passenger transport will have for us, and we resolve to send delegates to cooperate with Tawa Flat, Titahi Bay, and Po^rirua in their efforts to bring to the notice of the Minister of Transport the extreme indignation which we feel at the unwarranted, unnecessary action of the Licensing Authority in depriving Mr. Hunter of his licence."
A second resolution was carried expressing warm appreciation of the courtesy and kindness shown by Mr. Hunter and his drivers, particularly thanking them for the help and care bestowed upon children travelling unattended in the buses, and expressing the hope that Mr. Hunter would succeed in his appeal against the decision of the Licensing Authority.
The- following were fsppointed 'delegates from Johnsonvillc and Glenside to co-operate with Tawa Flat, Porirua, and Titahi Bay in carrying the matter further and in endeavouring to have the combined protest made effective: — Mesdames Croft and Hodge,. Messrs. Broom, Rev. Martin, P. Burden, and R. Billings.
