BUYERS INSTRUCTED

AUCKLAND WOOL SALE

DROP ON JANUARY

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. German-buyers were practically only spectators at today's Auckland wool sale,'and during the morning Bradford buyers received cable instructions reducing their buying limits. The result of^ these instructions was ' seen in a marked difference between prices bid for the first catalogue offered and those bid for later catalogues. Competition was quite fair ior the opening catalogue. Better-class wools showing .quality realised from par to a shade easier than at last week's Napier sale. Inferior wool was from id to -Jd easier; lambs' wool, about Id down; bellies, pieces, and locks, id down. . .-.:.. Compared .with January's Auckland sale, values were down, about 3d per lb. Passings were about 25 per cent. Subsequently, Bradford's amended instructions became operative, and, in consequence, lower prices ruled and passings were much more frequent. "MOST ERRATIC SALE." It is generally considered that today's offering is not up. to the standard of quality usual at the last sale of the season. As a whole, it made a poor showing. There was a fair proportion of old wools and a big proportion .of lambs' wool, much of which was badly seeded. Tho clip was heavy in condition, and a fair amount ; was discoloured. :'■■■'■■"." "A most erratic sale," said one broker at noon. He added that it was impossible to make a useful Comparison with, sales in other centres. In another quarter it w&s estimated that today's sale may show a clearance of 10,000 bales, at about £13;por bale, as compared with £18 5s Id. at the January sale. ; •. . . " :
