MANSLAUGHTER IN SAMOA

::\ APIA, March 23. Latu, a .Samoan youth, seventeen years of age, charged with the murder of "Vasa, a Samoan male, at the village of Satapuala, on January 22, was found guilty of manslaughter at the High Court before Chief Judge Luxford and three European assessors and one Samoan. He was sentenced to fifteen years' hard labour. The defence alleged that the act had been committed in self-defence. The prosecution contended that Latu had laid in wait for Vasa following a, quarrel, and attacked him with a knife, severing his left hand and splitting his skull: ■ . . rA sentence of fifteen years, for manslaughter is a record for Samoa.
