QUESTION OF INSURANCES
TOE2O, March 25. . Salvage operations are proceeding with a view to refloating the British 1100-ton freighter Warebridge, which was stranded at Hakodate while fleeing from the conflagration. The crew of forty-five are safe. It has been confirmed that the Hakodate fire loss approaches 100,000,000 yen, of which insurance covers 30,000,000. -'■ • ' > , .-. Of this sum about 12,000,000 is carried by foreign companies, including half a million each by the New Zealand and South British Companies. Half a million yen, which is given as' the amount of cover held by each of two New Zealand insurance companies, is, at the' present rate of exchange, roughly £30,000.
