FAREWELL TO MINISTER

In the Miraniar Methodist Church on Thursday evening members and friends of the Miraniar and Worser Bay Methodist Churches gathered to bid farewell to the Rev. M. A. McDowell; who has laboured amongst them for the past four years. In the absence of the superintendent of the circuit, the Rev.']?. K. Leadley, through indisposition, Mr.. N. E. Seddon presided. Eulogistic references to the fine work accomplished by the departing minister were made "by Mr.. E. Hampton, circuit stew aid, Mr. Moxham from Worser Bay, and Mrs. Britehard; Mr. McCarthy and Mr. Mackio''representing the various sections of the Miramar' Church. The senior steward, Mr. T. S. Hinde, asked Mr. McDowell to accept a fruit bowl and cheque as a small memento of his four years' work in Miramar. Mr. McDowell, in reply, thanked his friends for the kindly thought that had prompted the gathering, and said that while no ijresentation would be necessavv to remind him of the happy four years he had had among.them, he could assure them that their gift would be a treasured possession. He went on to say that no greater appreciation of his work could be shown him than'for the friends to rally round the new minister,' the Key. Mr. Matthews, and give to him that loyal and enthusiastic support thart had been a feature of their services together. During the evening the choir rendered two very acceptable anthems, Mrs. Bouttell a- recitation, Mrs. Chapman,' Miss Butters, and Mr. K. Blatlierwick, solos. Mrs. Caigou and Mr. H. Kelly acted as accompanists. Supper provided by the ladies of the church gave, those present an opportunity of saying a personal farewell to Mr" McDowell and brought a'Very en-joyable-function to a close.
