LOWER HUTT BRANCH

The annual meeting of the Lower Hutt branch of the Red Cross Society was held on Friday at the home of the president (Mrs. J. Mitehell). In the abseneo of the Mayor (Mr. J. W. Andrews), Mr. "W". T. Strand occupied the chair. He congratulated the branch on the highly efficient service it had rondeied during the year in assisting materially to relieve distress. Captain M. S. Galloway, Major , J. Abel, and Mr. N. Grant represented the Ked Cross Society, and each 'complimented the branch on its work. Major Abel suggested that the branch should endeavour to take up V.A.D. work. • * All the speakers, including the Mayoress (Mrs. Andrews), thanked, the branch for undertaking provision of a district nurse. ' . . The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The executive was complimented on establishing a reserve fund, at present £10. The balance-sheet showed - a small credit balance. The Lower Hutt postmen and those assisting them were thanked for organising a clothes drive, and Mr. Lewis was tliankcd for his voluntary work as hairdresspr. .'.-■....
