BUCHOLZ CUP RACE

WIN FOR WAIRERE II

A moderate northerly wind prevailed for the Kvans Bay Yacht and Motor-boat Club's raOes on Saturday aftcruoon. The main event was the race lor the Bncholz" Clip, which was a general handicap for keel yachts. The course was from the clubhouse to the Somes Island buoy, to tlio steamer Omaini moored off Ngaluuiranga, ami home, a distance of about 10 miles. Although she started about 4min late, the Wairere 11, owned by Mr. K. Buciiolz, donor of the cup, was a good winner, both on finishing and corrected times. The Wairere 1 was placed second, and the Galatea third. The Kona-Jellicoe boats and the firstclass centreboardeis competed for a trophy presented by the Akanina Yacht Club, of Auckland. There were several fouls, and as a result the Advance, Idono, Phantom, and Ariki withdrew from the race, which was> won on corrected time by the Southern Maid, with the Kqtare second and- the Kitty third. ' ■ . ■• The Mayfair scored well in the race for a trophy, presented by the Canterbury Yacht and Motor-boat Club, which was for competition among second-class and Idle-Along class boats. She was first across the finishing line, and even with the small handicap of lmin she had no difficulty in retaining first place.
