SWIMMERS' MEMORIAL
—The "annual contest for the Swimmers' Memorial Cupj conducted by the 'Wellington Amateur Swimming Club, was held yesterday morning at Te.Aro Baths. Lyall Bay won the trophy -from Maranui, the previous holders, by the small margin of 13 2-5 seconds. . - "'■'■; '■• The contest,is between teams of four men, each of whom, has'to swim out 20 yards to a member of his team and cow him by one of the first four rescue methods of the Royal Life-Eaving Society to the starting point. The aggregate times of each team, each, time being taken, from Avheri the rescuer leaves ths board until the patient touches it, determine the vesult. " ' "The fastest time for' the "first three methods, in which the feet only are used in swimming, was gained by K. Spry, of ■■ Wellington. His time was only . threefifths of a second behind that of Pope, who.gained fastest time for the contest, although Pope, who did the fourth method for Wellington, was thus swimming breaststroke, using both hands and feet. R, Pelham, d£ Lyall Bay, gained second fastest time for the first three methods, with C. Mentiplay ' (Maranui) third, F. Mqllier (Lyall Bay) fourth, and E. H. Durrant (Maianui) and L.
