High society crime, cultured jewel robbers suave burglars, aud a beauttEul woman burglar, a detective turning thief to catch a thief but subdued by a pair of brown eyes-all these and other ingredients nf a good crime thriller are included in "Midnight Club." the new (Jive Brook-George Raft-Helen A'inson picture now showing at the St.- James Theatre The Midnight Club is the night club frequented by the gang, which is headed by Colin Grant <Clive Brook) and includes Iris Whitney (Helen Vinson). Arthur Bradley (Alan Mowbray) and George Rubens (Ferdinand Gottschalk) Geor-e Raft Is cast as a detective from America who conies to London (where he meets people who cannot talk English"), and puts a spoke into the wheel of Colin Graut's robbery'gaug -When they steal jewels, he steals back the booty from them, and puts the woman member of the gang in an awkward situation. Later she retaliates. But he is such a nuisance that the gang invite him into partnership. He accepts with the idea of betraying, them to justice' -Not knowing his connection with the police] the girl loves him. But the gang discover Ins duplkity, pinion him. and make their getaway—all except the girl, who sticks to the betrayer. In an interesting supporting programme, nothing is more interesting than Indian salmon catching in the foaming waters of the Columbia Itiver. The breeding of \merican trotting horses, a Harry Langdon' comic, and Johnny Green's playing are other" notable items. ■
