TREATMENT REFUSED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND,. This Day. .. "This young man has been taken into custody for his own sake," said the polite prosecutor; today,, when a seaman, aged 18, was charged with being idle and disorderly. The Prosecutor said, that the manwas suffering. from an infectious disease and had refused to attend a.clinic He had been, warned Toy the police, but had been in the habit of visiting the municipal baths. Counsel'asked that the accused be placed on strict probation. The Magistrate;- Then he would be at liberty. I think it -would be better if he was placed in gaol till lie has been cured. ' Counsel protested that that would be drastic,: as there were hundreds of people who attended the clinic, but were at large. The- Magistrate: But in the public interest he should be prevented from spreading the disease. •• He will be convicted on this charge, and sentence is postponed until March 29.
