SUCCESSFUL ARCWEAR
It is safe to say that no such results as those obtained recently by the Arcwear, Sir Joseph Isherwood's first Arcform steamer, have ever been accomplished before by a tramp steamer. During the loaded trials, Sir Joseph Isherwood, wfco entertained some 40 guests, stated that if the new vessel could maintain throughout her voyage to the River Plate an average speed of 11 knots on an average coal consumption of 18-tons per.24 hours she would revolutionise tramp shipping. The results of the trials were highly satisfactory, as were also the data obtained under service conditions during the run from Immingham to Plymouth.
The Arcwear left the former port loaded with 5586 tons of coal on a Friday, evening, and arrived off Plymouth early on Sunday morning, her average speed recorded over a period of 24 hours being 11.15 knots on an average i.ti.p. of 1417. She carried 1100 tons of bunker coal, sufficient for her out and homo voyage, her coal consumption during the day's run being only 20 tons. The Admiralty constant was 425, the .Admiralty coal coefficient 30,100, total deadweight 6850 tons, and displacement 9085 tons.
