FINAL MATCHES

COMPETITION CLOSING

BROUGHAM HILL'S LEAD

The final matches of the 1933-34 inter-club tennis season wer& to have, been completed at Miramar this afternoon. There were only three divisions left to be concluded: the first division men, the fourth, and the sixth divisions. In the fourth grade the winners of the A and B sections —Mirama-r A and B teams respectively—played off for the championship honours, while in the sixth division Miramar B met Technical A.

In their scheduled match against Thorndon today Brougham Hill A had a great deal in their favour.. The latter team have won all their matches this season and are a particularly strong side, while Thorndon have won only three matches. University A, who were running second to Brougham Hill A at the commencement of today's play, were to meet Wellington A. Last week University A had a runaway victory over their B team by eight matches to love, 16 sets to one, and 100 games to 40. University A have given indications of improving very rapidly of late. Since their defeat by Brougham Hill A on February 24 by seven matches to one, they have had three successive sweeping victories: on March 3, v. Thorndon, by seven matches to love; on March 10, v. Newtown, by six matches to one; and on March 17, v. University B. With fortune on their side University may be runners-up to Brougham Hill in the championship. _
