BUSINESS CONCLUDED

MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE

The Municipal Conference concluded its formal business today, having disposed of a fairly long order paper of about 60 remits' in very quick time. Mr. D. G. Sullivan, Mayor of Christchurch, was elected president of the association. A proposal that in future conferences should be held biennially was defeated, and it was decided that the nest conference should be held at Christchureh.; On the motion of Mr. H. L. Harker, Mayor of Wairoa, the conference expressed its sympathy with the people of the towns which suffered damage in tha recent earthquake. Other officers elected were:—Vice* presidents," the Mayor of Wellington^ Mr. T. C. A. Hislop; Auckland, Mr. G< W. Hutchison; Dunedin, the Key. Mr. Cox; Palmerston North, Mr. A. E< Mansford; and Napier, Mr. C. Ow Morse; executive committee, the above and the Mayors of Masterton,- Mr. T. Jordan; Greymouth, Mr. J. W. Greenslade; Ashburton, Mr. W. H. Woods; Feilding, Mr. C. E. Taylor; Eotorua,: Mr. T. Jackson; and Gore, Mr. A. Newman; the chairmen of the Auckland. Transport Board, Mr. J. A; G. Allum; Papatoetoe Town' Board, Mr. W. J. Nicholson; and of the Havelock Nprth.' Town Board;, legal adviser, Mr. J.O'Shea; secretary and treasurer, Mr. JP. M. Martin.
