THREE SURVIVORS
CAPSIZED TORPEDO BOAT
RESCUED FROM HULL
TOKIO, March 13. Three men were miraculously saved from the Tomozuru after her arrival at Sasebo, but a poignant feature was that two others were drowned by high waves in th.% act of being rescued via a hatch. The Tatsuta affixed a hawser to the propellers and towed the upturned Tomozuru to Sasebo, where, at midnight, hammering on the hull elicited answers from within. A hole was made through which milk and retoratives were passed. Divers entered from below and rescued three, of whom two had broken arms but walked half a mile to hospital. The ship was subsequently righted. Efforts to find other survivors, believed to be about eight, have begun. The crew totalled 113, of whom 100 are almost certainly dead. The Emperor has expressed profound grief at the disaster.
