PLUNKET SOCIETY

MONTH'S OPERATIONS

The monthly meeting of the Wellington branch of the Plunket Society was held on Friday, and was presided over by the acting president, Mrs. Bullock. The Plunket Nurses' report.stated that the number of new baby cases in the city and suburbs and outstations was 122, new pre-natal cases 24, visits to homes 1597, I visits to rooms, adults 2457, babies 1942, and children 347. This month's figures showed a general increase over those of last month for the district work, this being due to the fact that the holidays are over and families settled down. On the whole the condition and progress of the children under supervision have been satisfactory, although there has been some sickness, due to the two or three spells of hot weatjher. The nurses thank the ladies who drove them during the month to their cases, Mrs. Leniston and Misses Peach and Cameron for flowers, and the ladies who gave parcels of clothing for distribution. The matron of the Truby King Karitane Hospital reported as follows:—Admissions 33, 12 mothers and 21 babies from Wellington and* suburbs, Petone, Lower Hutt, and Paliiatua. During the month 315 visitors were shown over the hospital, including several parties from the Franconia and delegates passing through to the recent conference. An interested visitor was the Minister of Health for New South Wales, Mr. Weaver, who was brought by the Hon. J. A. Young and was shown over the hospital and the Karitane products factory. Mr. Young subsequently wrote saying how much Mr. Weaver had enjoyed his visit, where he saw much that interested him, and felt he had gained much valuable information Garments required at the hospital had been cut out and distributed to the Kelburn, Ro^eneath, Island Bay, Karori, and Houghton Bay schools to be made up. The matron would be glad of hand-knitted singlets. Anyone wishing to help the hospital in this way is asked to apply to the matron or secretary for the pattern. Fourteen nurses attending the postI graduate course held in Wellington have commenced their course on infant care at the hospital. They come two mornings each week, for three weeks. The committee carried a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. T. Gray, of Pukerua Bay, for his generous gift of a section j of land in that district for the Plunket Society, and -wished Mr., Mrs., and Miss Gray an enjoyable trip abroad. Mrs. Neale. | who is to act as president of the coastal towns in Mrs. Gray's absence, was welcomed by the committee. Mrs. W. A. Parton has offered to hold a.jumble sale, and goods for it will be gratefully received. Mrs. Tythe Brown, ■ who has beeu on j three months' leave of absence, moved a special voteN of thanks to the acting presi-1 ■lent, Mrs. Biillock.
