WELLINGTON CENTRE
THE EASTER TOURNAMENT
A meeting of the executive of the Wellington Bowling Centre was held at the Wellington Club's pavilion last evening. In the absence of the president (Mr. XV. Perry) Mr. S. JU. Stone presided. Surprise was expressed that only twentynine entries had been received for the centre's Easter tournament, and it was decided to extend the date for the closing of entries to next Saturday in the hope that further entries would come to hand. It was stated that if the centre was not. assisted to a greater extent in the holding of tournaments it would mean increasing the levy. It was explained that rinks from a number of city clubs would be visiting other centres during tho Easter holidays. During the discussion the hope was expressed that it would be able to bring the entries up to 32, which was really the minimum number for a successful tournament. It was decided to mak» use of the following greens for the tournament: —Hataitai (finals), Seatoun, Newtown, Victoria, Thorndon, Kelburn, Kar-ori, and Wellington (upper and lower). The time limit for the games (with the exception of the final) is to be 2% hours, the games in the section play to commence not later than 9 a.m., 12.30 p.m., and 3.30 p.m. Attention is to be drawn to the new rule that the jack must be thrown from the mat. In view of the fact that only eleven entries had been received it was decided to take no further action in connection with the proposed one-day tournament in aid of the Mayor's Kelief Fund. High appreciation was expressed of the manner-in which the Hataitai and Victoria clubs had managed the singles and rinks champion of champions games, and a letter of thanks is to be forwarded to Mr. C. Innes for his efforts in connection with the score board, v It was reported that the winner of the singles championship, J. 11. Brackenridge '(Lyall Bay), being the., winner of five centre certificates, is entitled to the centre's gold medal. A motion was carried expressing appreciation of the hospitality extended by the Otaki and Paekakariki clubs on the occasion of the recent centre visits. The Hutt Club are the next challengers for the Hill Pins, held by Khandallah, and Seatoun are the challengers for the Edwin Feathers, held by Lyall Bay. It was reported that the centre's bank balance stands at £111 12s 6d. It was decided that the distribution of prizes should take place at Eastbourne on Saturday, April 14. !
