AWAPUNI TRACK NOTES
(Special to the "Evening Post.") PALMEESTON N., .This Day. • There was a fair amount of fast work at Awapuni yesterday morning, and | among the horses sent along against the I watch were candidates for honours at Trcnthain. The course proper was open and the flags were' out in the middle of it. . , :.. ■ Catalogue had Blacksmith as a companion over a mile and was doing it the better at the finish. The three-year-old hit out nicely and appears an improved horse since his recent, racing. He will be a contender for honours in" the St. Leger at Trentham on. Friday and may
be expected to give a good account of himself. Dombey and Ythan swung along well over six furlongs and the lmin 20src they recorded was not bad. Dombey was doing his work better than Ythan at the finish. Dombey's previous racing at Trentham will be remembered when he goes out to contest the Trial Plate. ....'-., Chief Marionette and Treasure Hunt sprinted six furlongs in lmin 21isec and they finished together. Treasure Hunt and Interlocutor figure in the acceptances for Opunake, but it is doubtful whether they will sport silk at that meeting. . The only schooling was done by Acervate and Thrasher, who were sent over three fences. Acervate was jumping nicely, but Thrasher took his fences carefully. Good Hunting, Calydon, and Te Eangitumau, who raced at Woodville on Saturday, were restricted to pace work on the plough. Te Bangitumau is likely to forgo his Wellington engagements. ■ " ■ •. ■ Golden- Chant, ~ivith Broughton up, was sent along over five furlongs, but she did not appear to be going as freely as usual. ' The following Trentham riding engagements have been announced for Palmerston horsemen:—E. Eeed, Dombey, Catalogue, Variant, Golden Hair (Thompson), Lone Raider, Diatomous, and Taitorur K. Voitre, Bed Manfred (Thompson), Synagogue, : Prostration, and Might; S. Anderson, Bellbroney and Walton Park (Hack Cup, -second day); \Y. J.'McDowell, Aesculus and probably Tunbridge (second day); C.
