ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

VISITORS NOW ARRIVING

CADLAND IN FINE ORDER

(By "Eangatira.") With all the local horses.'having galloped yesterday and wish visiting horses only beginning to appear on the scene, it was a completely oil day at ■Trentham this morning, at least so far as fast work was concerned. . There was a sharp frost and th air was very cold, but the sky was cloudless and the outlook for the next few days was most promising. Still there is practically no prospect now of the track being Easter than slightly yielding on Friday. The' solitary horse to register a fast trial was Purse, who was exercised only yesterday after her Woodville racing. With S. Wilson in the saddle she ran seven furlongs in lmin 32sec, corning home the last half-mile in:s3jsec. The plough, which is in capital order, just holding the right amount of dampness, was extensively used, by horses doing pace work. One horse who chose the grass was ;Epigram, who did a couple of rounds at a solid half to three-quarter pace, sprinting" a furlong down tha straight with the Yutoi two-year-old colt the first time. Among the visitors out working were, the Thompson candidates Cadland and Irish Lancer, both of whom look very well. Cadland particularly caught attention because of his fine muscular condition and the loss of some of the lumber he was carrying when last here. Irish Lancer was quite docile, and southerners on the track stated. that he is now a much better behaved animal at the start than he .was.. Another Thompson candidate in Cricket Bat came north last night. Railway candidates who arrived yesterday were Diatonious, Royal Hunting, and Kerbside; and Copyist came north this morning. The three' first menticned all did serviceable pacing. Diatomous, not unlike Autopay in appearance, is in obviously very solid condition. Kerbside is also looking exceedingly well, and-she was difficult to restrain in her work, but she usually is. Indeed to the eye Kerbside is a better mare .now than when she sprung her Railway surprise last year. ' The only far southern representatives at the meeting besides Irish Lancer and Kerbside will be Tizzy (the former's stablemate) and Cherry Queen, and they were both allotted pacing tasks this morning. Tizzy is a very small filly, but. she is saic^ to have more than her relative share of speed. Other arrivals yesterday included Liniulus (now in L. G. Morris's stable), Emotion, Senior, April Pool, Coronilla, Tycoon, and Bon Rapidei They were, all worked but none was required to gallop. 'It is understood at Trentham that the Aucklander Master. Brierly, who is in-the Ohinemuri Gup toriiorrow, will be coming down for the Autumn Handicap, 11 furlongs, on the final day of the Wellington Meeting. His presence in the field /ill, add considerable strength' to the contest, and. it will be the more interesting as he. has not previously raced in the Dominion i xtside of the Auckland district. Although Golden, Hair had not s arrived on the scene this morning it is generally accepted now that she is/a definite starter in the Thompson, which her'owner (Mr. G. F. Moore) has, previously won. with Helen Portland (Golden Hair's great grandam) and Reremoana (twice). Roy Reed is to. ride her in this event and Diatomous in the Railway. , L. J. Ellis was in attendance at the track, this morning, and he gave his book for the first day as Bon Rapide, Werohia, Burnish, Argentic, • Royal Amphora, and (Importance As yethe has.no ride in the' Railway. . Additional riding. engagements have been announced as: S., Wilson, also Emotion; W. H. Jones, • Lovecourt and Davolo (probably); •R. J. Mackie, Lackston; R. J. Mackie •'■' (Wingatui), Kerbside; P. Atkins, -Royal. Hunting and Tycoon; H. Jf. -Wiggins/also Choral; and W. Jenkins (not Eastwood), Cherry. Queen. . The-only scratchings yet made for the meeting are Toxmiss' and Werohia for the Trial Plate, and Strong Light (12.10 -p.m. yesterday) for all engagements. . '.-.'.
