A REMAND GRANTED
Arrested on his return from the Antarctic in tho Bear of Oakland, Peter Bardebes appeared before Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court today. r . w. E. Leicester said that Bardebes, who had been away with tho Byrd Antarctic Expedition, was brought up from the South. Island this morniug, being charged with assault causing actual bodily harm. Arrangements had been made to have him brought before the Court so that the question of bail could be considered. Counsel said that he understood that Bardebes was under the influence of liquor, and struck a man in the bar at tho Wellington Races last November. The man fell on the concrete floor and sustained injuries to his head. The Magistrate remanded the accused until March 21, and allowed bail on a surety of £100.
