A TRIAL PLATE PROSPECT
,Galydon beat nothing of particular account in winning the Totaramii Hack Handicap at Woodville on Saturday, but his effort was a stylish one and showed him to be an improving gelding who may not be long m adding to his winning score. He has engagements at Trentham this week, including the Trial Plate, and in this event particularly he should be a hard horse to beat. On breeding Calydon has quite excellent recommendation, and he may well live up to'it. He is a four-year-old black gelding bf Hunting Soug from the Catmint mare Blue Mint, a half-sister to useful performers in Peneus, Little River, and Blue Paper, and he is owned by Mr. W. G. Shannon (who also has Blacksmith), for whom he is being trained by Mrs. A. McDonald at Awapuni. He began racing only early this season, and lie early impressed by leading into the straight in a race at Trentham last October. Since then lie has made only occasional appearances, but a fortnight ago he ran- two good races in the highweights at the Woodville Meeting. His win on Saturday came at his eighth start, and it was overdue at that. ■ -.
