Oxford beat Cambridge-in the annual athletic contest by 7 points'to 4, including thp mile, in which Lovelock complacently dead-heated with his team-mate, B. Leach, in 4min 23 S-osec. The American, C. F. Stanwood, an Oxonian, won the 120 yards hurdles in 15 S-lOsec, 220 yards hurdles in. 24 9-lOsec, and the high jump at sft 10in, all of which he won last year, hereby achieving an unprecedented feat at the University sports. The American Olympic representative, Hallowell, an Oxonian, won the half-mile in lmin 54 Irssec. Cambridge's wins included that of Horsfall (Australia) in the; long jump, with 22ft lOin. _ Horsfall was beaten by inches in the quarter-mile by his team-mate, D. L.-Rathbone, in 49 3-ssec. A. Irfan (Cambridge), the first Turk to compete, won the weight-putting- with 42ft 6in. • Baillieu was fourth with 35ft 7%in. Luxton was third in the 220 yards. R. M. Barrer (New Zealand) was fourth in the three miles.
