FIRST VISIT TO CIRCUS
PRINCESS ELIZABETH
Princess Elizabeth recently went to th© circus for the first'time. With the Duke and Duchess of York and Lady Mary Cambridge, the Queen's greatniece, she visited Olympia. ; They were received at the Addison Eoad entrance to Olympia by the- Earl of Lonsdale, president of the circus, and Mr. Bertram Mills, the proprietor. The little Princess, who was wearing a short dark red coat and a hat of the same colour, jumped with delight when shown the horses in their' stables. When the party entered, the Eoyal box. there was loud chipping and cheering. Leaning forward between her mother and father, Princess Elizabeth gazed entranced at the circus ring, and clapped almost continuously. At the clowns she laughed loudly and often, particularly when one disappeared down a "well and came back blown out with water, which had to be pumped from liim. She was delighted when Whimsical.;. Walker, the veteran clown, -came up'to the Eoyal box and allowed her to hold the- "red hot" poker he was carrying.Horses, acrobats, lions and tigers, wire-walkers, and all the other performers obviously thrilled her. A bare-back riding act she clapped with special vigour. . . Half-way tlirough the . programme Lord Lonsdale. presented the Princess with an immense white' fur rabbit. To Lady Mary Cambridge he gave a toy dog.-' ■ . .;• ■ ■■,-•-■ The Eoyal party was highly.amused when two seals, after several attempts, played the National Anthem, on motor 'horns* ■ . .
