LAMBS AND EWES IN DEMAND Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Feilding 6ale held on Friday as under: — An exceptionally heavy yarding of store lambs came forward with quite a good sprinkling of 4 and 5-year breeding ewes, and we" report a most successful sale, practically everything changing hands under the hammer. Good, sound four and five-year hill ewes met a ready market, and in this section we report a good clearance. Cattle: In this department the competition was keen with a good clearance. Quotations: —Store sheep: syr ewes, 14s 6d, 16s 9d to 18s 3d; 6-yr ewes, 14s; 4 and 5-yr ewes, 17s 6d, 18s 9d; 6th ewes, 235; 2th ewes, 30s Gd; 2th ■ wethers, 16s 6; 18s, to 19s 4d; shorn b.f. lambs, 10s 2d, 12s, 13s lid, 14s 3d, 14s 6d, 14s 7d, 15s 6d, to 15s 9d; woolly b.f. lambs, 12s 7d, 14s lid, to 16s sd; shorn w.f. lambs, 12s 6d, 13s Id, 13s 9d, 14s lOd, to 15s 9d; woolly w.f. lambs, 12s; w.f. wether lambs, 12s 4d to 13s; w.f. ewe lambs, to Us 3d. Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., report:—At our Masterton sale on Wednesday we offered a yarding comprising 1000 lambs to a medium attendance. The majority of the lambs were of very good quality and condition. It was noticeable that not so many outside buyers were present as last week, with the result that competition was weaker and prices were lower accordingly. Our venders met the market and only one pen was passed out unsold. Following were the prices:—2oo s.w. lambs, 12s 6d; 130 shorn wether lambs, 11s 7d; 174 ewe lambs (small), 1.3s 3d; 70 b.f. lambs, 14s 7d; 90 b.f. lambs, 11s; 20 bf lambs, lie Id; 31 m.s. lambs, 11s; 23 b.f. lambe, 12s 4d; 140 b.f. lambs, 12s Cd; cull lambs, 6s Id. CLEARANCES AT CARTERTON. Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., report on their Carterton sale held on Friday as follows:—A large 'entry of sheep, cattle, and pigs came forward and was submitted to a good attendance of local farmers. There was a keen inquiry for all classes of stock offered, and practically a total clearance was effected under the hammer at the following prices:—Sheep: Fat b.f. 2th, to 235; fat lambs, 18s 3d to 18s lOd; shorn wether lambs, 8s Id, lls, to 12s 6cl; b.f. lambe, 10s, 11s 6d, 12s, to 12s 7d; s.m. ewes, to 19& Id; fat ewes, 13s to 15s Bd. Cattle: Springing cows, to £3 15s; fat cows, £2 13s; cows and calves, to £2 7s; empty heifers, to 40s; forward cows, 295, 355, to 37s 6d; yearling Jersey heifers, to 40s; potter bulls, 24s to £3 10s. Pigs: Weaners, lls to 16s Gd; slips, 17s to 20s; porkers, 22s 6d, 295, to 30s; p.b. Berkshire boars. £1 Is; p.b. Tamworth boars, £2 2b; sows to farrow, 40a to £3 7s. SHEEP AT WAIKANAE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report that at the Waikanae yards on Thursday they offered a full yarding of sheep, and a medium yarding of cattle to a good attendance of buyers. Competition was keen for all classes of sheep and, with the exception of one pen of lambe, a total clearance was made at the following prices:—4 and 3-year ewes, 17s to 20s; cull ewes, 7s to 14s; fat ewes, 15s 6d to 16s 6d; forward condition ewes, 13s sd; woolly rape lambs, 13s 6d to 15s lOd; shorn r.w. lambs, 12s 3d to 13s; cull lambs, 9s to 10s 3d; 2th wethers, 18s Id to 19s; 2-shear S.D. rams, 4 to 4% gs.; f.f.m do., 4gs; aged Romney rams> % ,to 1 guinea; 2yr P.A. steers, £3 8s to ) £3 lls; yearling do., £2 16s; coloured do., £1 12s; fat heifers £3 4s; store cows, 28s to 345; yearling Jersey cross heifers, r.w.b., £2 10s; potter bull, £3 2s 6d. FKOZEN MEAT LAMB MARKET FIRM -The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board has received the following cable from its London office, dated January 26, advising that the following are the approximate average prices realised for the week at, Smithh'eld market and London stores, compared with those of the previous week in parentheses:— New Zealand Sheep: Canterbury and North Island selected crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, 48/561b 5 5-8 d (5%d), 57/64 "5%d (s%d)i 05/72 5%d-(5d); North Island, 48/56 5 5-8 d (5%d), 57/64 SIM5 lM (5%d), 65/72 5%cl (sd); ewes, 48/ under 4 5-8 d (4 5-8 d), 48/64 4d (4d), 65/72 3%d (3%d). New Zealand lambs: Canterbury, not quoted. Lamb market: Firm with consumption satisfactory; spot stocks light until arrival of further supplies next week. Mutton market: Wethers and ewes very firm owing to extremely short supplies. Beef market: Meeting with good trade, but prices unchanged. New Zealand porker pigs: Heavier arrivals have slightly eased prices, but trade good. New Zealand baconer pigs: Firm, owing to betr ter prices bacon. The Bank of New South Wales is advised, London, January 26, as follows: — "Mutton: Wethers, 4%d to Cd per lb; ewes, 3y 4 d to 4%d; beef, 1 7-8 dto 3d; lamb, 6%d to 7%d; pork, 5d to 6%d." SHIPMENTS AND KILLINGS Shipments of frozen meat from the Dominion to the United Kingdom during the period from October 1, 1933, to January 15, 1934, compared with those for last season, according to figures supplied by the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board, were: — 1933-34. 1932-33. RUGBY, January 2G. A total of £71,950,000 was applied for in Treasury bills. The amount allotted m bills at three months was £35,000,000. The average rate per cent, was 18s 1.51 d, as compared with 18s 3d last week.
