NO CREW OFFERING
STEAMER GALE HELD UP (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHMSTCHURCH, This Day. When the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company endeavoured to obtain a crew for tho steamer Gale, which has just completed overhaul, there was no re-, sponse. ' The soamen and firomen gave no official reason for the action, and a representative of tho company would not divulge- any information regarding tho trouble. A report is current, howover, that the crow would not sail with, tho master selected hy the company. Tho. Wellington Seamen 's Union was communicated with, and if is understood a reply was received asking the union men to sigh on. Yesterday morning tho men held an informal meeting at the Lyttelton. office of the union, but nothing further eventuated. Today the Gale is still awaiting a crew.
Two first offenders for drunkenness were convicted and discharged by Mr. W. H. Coy, J. 1"., in tho "Mount Cook Police Court today.
