BRILLIANT CRICKET
; BRADMANvAND BROWN
SYDNEY, January 26,
In a- Sheffield Shield game against Victoria, the final game of the' series, New South Wales require an outright win to retain the shield. "
The-weather is ideal. Pousford was unable to play for Victoria. There was a record crowd of 32,000 present, and tremendous excitement due to Brad: man's fireworks.
New South Wales in their first innings made 445 for two wicketa (Finglcton, retired hurt, 78; W. Brown, not outj 187; Bradman, 128; Kippax, 44). ' "Victoria's bowlers, JTleetwood-Sinith and Ebeling, both Test possibilities, McCormiek and Ironmonger, were all severely punished. The batsmen were on top the, whole day.
'Bradman hit four 6's off FleetwoodSmith, three in one over, and was then caught, deliberately throwing away his wicket. Brown's magnificent batting is regarded as certain to ensure his inclusion in the Test team. His tcover drives and leg-side shots were perfectly timed. Wodßfull was much impressed by his capacity as opening batsman. This is the third occasion in Sheffield Shield matches that he has acquitted himself finely. Fingleton, too, batted like a champion. The Test selectors witnessed the match and choose the Test team next Wednesday.
