POSITION IN SAAR
TERRORISM BY NAZIS
EFFECT ON PLEBISCITE
LONDON, January 18.
Immediate repression, of Nazi terrorism in the Saar is essential to secure an unhampered vote when the plebiscite 5s taken next year, declares Mr. Geoffrey Knox, the British chairman of the League of Nations' Commission, which controls the area.
In a letter to the League Mr. Knox discloses the seriousness of the situation, and states that the German Front organisation has created a clandestine administration side by side with the legal Government, says the Geneva correspondent of the "Manchester Guardian."
The plebiscite is to decide whether the people of the Saar, which formerly was part of Germany, desiro the area to be returned to Germany or become part of Trance. The Nazis, says Mr..Knox, are ever using the Saar as a starting point in their operations against Ausiria. Illegal Nazi military organisations persist, and in them informing is regarded as an honourable duty.
