'Asked what wag the position irt regard to the proposal to ohtain authority to raiie up to £2*,000 fftr street widening purpose*, the Mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop) said today that the idea was to enible commitments up to the end o£ the present year to be met. The money was required to' meet, old commitments concerning property already taken whero settlements had not been finally effected, and to meet some obligations arising' through the dedication of land arising through the street widening bylaw. The localities generally affected were in Taranaki Street and certain portions o£ Thorndon Quay, together with one or two smaller areas, such as at Wadestown, in connection with roading improvements.
