HAWKE'S BAY V. WAIRARAPA
(By Telegraph.—Pres9 Association.)
MASTERTON, This Day. Play on the first day of the representative/cricket match between Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa was inclined to be dull, practically the only redeeming features being the fine stand by the Hawke's Bay colt Mahoney and the splendid eighth wicket partnership of Perry and W. Whiteman for Wairarapa. The weather was fine and.the wicket hard and fast. The visitors had first use of the wicket and their early batsmen were dismissed cheaply, five wickets being down for 73. With the assistance of Mahoney (71) and Jlobbg (40) the remaining batsmen, brought the total to 204. Massey took three wickets for 7», Barr three for 25, and Sherratt three for 22. * Wairarapa opened disastrously, losing »even wickets for 43 runs. Perry (28) and Whiteman (43), however, were associated in a fine partnership which stopped the rot and carried.the score to 107, when O'Brien took Perry's leg stump. The innings closed shortly before 6 o'clock with a total of 139. Kavanagh took three wickets for 43 runs, O'Brien two for 17, and Chadwick two for 21.
