CANADA'S TRADE
A jump in the favourable trade balance from £10,500,000 to £25,000,000, an increase of nearly £4,000,000 in total trade with the Empire and a decline of £22,000,000 in total trad# with foreign countries are features of Canada's external business for tho twelvo months to October 31, aa compared with the preceding twelvt months.
Tho total exports for this period were £103,000,000, a drop of but £2,000,000, while imports reached' a total of £78,000,000, a reduction of £13,000,000. Exports to British countries were £48,000,000, an increase of £4,000,000, and imports'in this'clasl were almost stationary at £26,000,000. Practically the whole reduction in imports therefore was from non-Empire countries, notably from the United States. Purchases from that country amounted to £42,000,000, a drop of £13,500,000, while sales to the United States were £32,000,000, a reduction of £2,500,000. ■ ' ' It ia recalled that as recently as 1929 Canada bought from the United States goods worth £180,000,000 and sold products to the extent of', only £104,000,000. . -
