HAWKE'S BAY RAM PAIR
DEMAND FOR ROMNEYS

HASTINGS, January 26.
~ At the second 'day of the Hawke's Bay ram fair, flock Southdowns and etud Romneys and Southdowns* were offered. In the Southdown flock rams section values improved from 10 to 20 per cent; on: last year, but the rise was not comp arable with. the .rise recorded on .flock Romneys yesterday. The top price was 11 guineas, 'realised by Mr.'R. M. Perry (Masterton). The average price was from 4 to 5 guineas.
Romneys appreciated to a considerable degree, the top price being 40 guineas for a shearling Roinney on! account of Mr. Adam McKay (Masterton). Other breeders irealised to 36, guineas, while: the average price was' in the vicinity of from: 20. to 23 guineas. . ' The,demand for Romneys was well maintained and passings were infrequent in stud /Southdowns. Mr. W. J. Gimblett (Hastings) realised the top price of 36 guineasj while. Mr.. A. Vile (Bulls) obtained •35 guineas.. The supply was in excess of the; demand and values fell away inconsequence. ■ ■
With, the-progress of: the sale the prices realised showed a slight improvement on last year. ■ Buyers were present from- all over the Wellington province.
