RAGWORT PREVALENT
UPPER HUTT DISTRICT
The^borough inspector (Mr. J. Lerwill) reported to the Upper Hutt Borough Council last evening that Mr. Wilson, of the Department, of Agriculture, had interviewed him r with reference to the. prevalence of ragwort,'a noxious weed, in the Upper Hu(;t district. Mr/Wilson ptressed the unsatisfactory, condition /of river: bank properties, which he considered were badly infected with the weed.- He suggested that, an improvement ..might ' be effected by combined action with the Hutt County, in- making use of unemployed labour. Lime and dodiuin chlorate mixed dry in suitable proportions and applied to the weed would destroy the plants and ieniove many of the complaint* existing among' those who were, trying to keep their properties clear. v , .: Councillor G. Councillor E. W. Cottle pointed out that the mixture was not injurious ' to itdek. . . ■ .■.;■ ' . ; ■•"'™»'-'"; It was decided to write to' Mr. Wilson and ask about the cost-of the mixture/in what proportion it should be mind, and its inflammability in'a dry form.. ,' .
