DECLARED "BLACK"
JOHNSONVILLE PIECE-WORK
The United Front Council-of • Action met. last night, when reports of delegates from the Johnsonville Public Works Department job regarding the en-
forcing of piece-work were discussed, states a report supplied by Mr. T. Kelly. It was^ stated that the men had had their .wages reduced for not completing the stipulated amount of work, while two others had been refused further sustenance unless they accepted piece-work. These men were now being provided for "by the Council of Action's committee.
It was decided that where piecework was being done on the Johnsonville Public Works Department job it be declared "black" so long as piecework conditions were operative; that all relief workers be instructed to refuse to accept piece-work; and that voluntary piece-workers be approached and informed of this decision; that the rest of the men on the Public Works Department; job, Johnsonville, be approached for support; that all trades unions be appealed to for financial and moral support. The Relief Committee reported that a central depot had been procured at 166 Vivian Street, and collectors were collecting money and foodstuffs.
