WESTERN HUTT ROAD
(To tha Editor.) Sir,—Might I reply, to Mr. W. T. brand's remarks re the Western Hutt Soad.project? Surely Mr. Strand.cannot lave seriously considered the question. vTo matter what necessity there is 1 for he railway to be continued up the easrt:rn side of the valley, it will be necesary (judging by the numbera of people vho travel daily by train from Belmont md Melling to Wellington) to retain he present railway at.least as far.as Hayvards. The Railway Department will carcely wish to forego this revenue. The Western Hutt Road ag it is at present is* indoubtedly a very serious danger, both o vehicle and pedestrian alike; the road icing so narrow that pedestrians are frc[uently splashed from head to foot with nud from its many pot-holes. Whilst ither" districts! have been liberally treated, ho Western Hutt has been the Cinderella. -I am, etc., ENDURANCE.
