RACES AT PAREMATA
Kaeiug at Paremato on Sunday was marred by a northerly gale, which made conditions extremely difficult for the fourtecn-footers. The only boat to complete the course was the. Takapuna Nustar.
The fourtcen-footcrs were sent away first, most with one or two reefs in, and all managed to negotiate the channel. The Kewpie capsized while running ■ down Brown's Bay, and the Queenie, 6tanding by her, was driven ashore by a white squall and had to lower away. Shortly after this the Lois capsized while beating out of the bay, and the rest of the field returned home, tho Kotuku giving a great display on the lead back.
The Kewpie's crew swam . ashore,. but were unfortunate in losing their spinnaker, while the crew of the Lois were picked up by Mr. France's launch. The Lois afterwards drifted on to some rocks and was extensively damaged.
Only two Takapunae started on tho first race for the Moorhouse Cup No. 2, a trophy raced for while the Noleen is taking part in the Z Class Championship at Dunedin. The Silver Dawn wisely retired at Brown's Bay, and the Nustar completed the course alone. * There were no races* for the Taurangas, but ori Monday the boys were*out practising. These youngsters show great promise, and it \b only a matter of two or three seasons before* they will be representing Paremata in the Takapuna championships.
The oldest large building in the world is the "Step Pyramid," in Egypt, which is estimated to be 6000 years old.
