SUMMER FLOWERS

, KARORI SOCIETY'S SHOW

'^'Tliere was a brilliant display of colours in the Karori Parish Hall yesterday when a midsummer flower show was held by the local horticultural society. Some of the gladioli were excellent blooms, and the champion, "Mrs. A. A. Erey," exhibited by Mr. L. Pointon, was a spike 43in long with 22in of salmon pink flowers. Other gladioli exhibitors of prominence were Messrs. Griffiths and Jenkins, and Mr. P. ,F. Lister. The. carnation and hydrangea .entries were particularly fine in colour and size. Considering the unfavourable weather, during the past month the show was very successful. Prominent among competitors in the children's section was Laura Packwood, whose blending of colour and"~ composition of her entries were of particularly high standard. Mr. F. Westbury had a collection of large luxuriant-looking beans on display in the vegetable sections. .Special displays of gladioli were: made by Mr. S. H. D. Peryman and by Messrs. Griffiths and Jenkins, whose deep bank of multi-coloured blooms, set off by "black birth" foliage, was one of the chief attractions of the sjiow, and caused miich'appreciative, comment.' The judges were Miss A. Farcy.. and Messrs. F. Westbury and J. Bell. , Mr. T. E. Y. Seddon, after being introduced by the Karori society's president (Mr. W.
