CONFERENCE OF TEACHERS

The annual conference of the Catholic Heligioiis Teachers' Associatiou of New Zealand concluded here today, when reports, which included important recotninciidutions, were received from n sub-com-mittee appointed to finalise : the discussions on teacher training and .the syllabus of religious instruction for Catholic primal y and secondary schools of the Dominion.
Bibhop Whyte (Dunodin) and Bibhop Ijislon (Auckland) were present. A provisional syllabus for primary schools was adopted and recommended to the 'Hici-archy, but; the linal decision. in regnrd to the syllabus for secondary schools was deferred until May, wheu a special committee will meet in Wellington. Airnngemcnts were made lor tho next conference, and it was provisionally decided to meet in Dunedin in jJanu.iry, 1033. Tlio iollowing officers were elected: — President, tho Rev. Brother OlConiior (rector, of Red Castle College, Oamaru); vice-presidents, the Eev. Father J. Dowling (Wellington), the Rev. Father A. Burger' (Christchurch), the Rev. Father X 11. Terry, the Rev. Brother Benigmis (Auckland); secretary and treasurer, a Christian brother (to be appointed).
