WHITE'S LINE RAMP

LEAKING WATER MAIN

A water main laid under the White's Line ramp is giving the Lower Hutt borough engineer some trouble. The pipes of the main are of a kind which have developed leaks recently in various parts of the borough. Considerable difficulty is being found in locating the faulty portion under the ramp. Tunnels have been driven at intervals on the south side of the ramp, but up till this morning the leak had not been located. In the meantime, the tunnels and the fl6w of water from the leak are weakening that portion of the ramp, and it is possible that tho tunnels will have to bo timbered to support the earthwork while the fault is being repaired. - _^
