NEW MEETING-HOUSE

GISBOBNE, This Day. | A hui, attended by Maoris from all parts of tho East Coast, is being held at Tokomaru Bay for the purpose of opening a now meeting-house, elaborately carved 'by a band of workers under the direction of. Mr. Hamilton, of Kotorua. Tho Rarotongaa party on arrival ■ yesterday evening was accorded an enthusiastic welcome by 300 haka dancers. The ceremony of ' the purification of the building followed, and this morning that of the lifting of the tapu.
A child, Paul Johnson, .of 75 Graf ton Road, was severely burned on the chest and arms and suffered shock when some' boiling water fell on him shortly after 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. -After being attended to by Dr. Zohrab he ivas taken to the Lewisham Hospital by the Tree i Ambulance. '.
