DISAPPOINTING WEATHER

The hope expressed yesterday that several days of fine weather might Vie anticipated is npt likely to bo fulfilled. Although an anticyclone has moved on to New Zealand, a depression appears to be forming over the northern part of the Tasman Sea. Totlay"s forecast therefore is for freshening north-easter-ly winds to the north of Greymouth and Akaroa, with northerlies to north-west-erlies elsewhere. The weather is likely to be cloudy to overcast, to the north' of Nelson and Marlboroiigh, with rain developing. Elsewhere conditions should be mainly fair, but a few showers may' be expected later about Foveaux Strait. Temperatures will be mild. Cool, fair, and cloudy weather prevailed generally yesterday, with some isolated showers on the east coast and in far southern districts. Moderate southerly winds ruled. By this morning, however, rain was falling in places in the northern portion of the North Island owing to the development of the depression referred to above, and winds had become northerly or north-easterly in direction. , Auckland's weather yesterday was mostly cloudy with a south-westerly bMcze. The weather in Wellington yesterday was cold with a fresh wind from the south. In the early morning conditions were cloudy and threatening, but by noon the sun was shining brightly and 8.3 hours of bright sunshine wero recorded altogether during the day: Christchurch had line and sunny weather with a south-westerly broeze. There was a slight frost there last night. Dunedin - also had fine weather with passing cloud, and the wind there, too, was a south-westerly breeze.
