SPORTS "PRINCESS" FUND

Hallowe'en, with all its symbols of black magic, was also celebrated with fitting rites at the party held last evening at (he Mayfair Cabaret, in aid of the Sports Princess in the National Confidence Carnival, Miss Gj-retta Stark. A ghostly atmosphere was. achieved in the early part of the evening when, in dimmed light, the "witch" arrived, and conjured from tho darkness a skeleton, a human ape, and other figures. Each' guest was invited to partake, of hot potato, .mash in which charms were embedded, and the abolishment of the "curse" by requesting "the witch's" incantations, was ah expensive matter.1 Some quaint customs, such as. ducking and bobbing apples, were faithfully observed, and tho "laying of the ghost" was the source of. much fun. ' An excellent orchestra, Hie "Hilo Hallowe'ens,"-provided excellent danec music. The piphig-in of the haggis anil other .items by the pipers were given warm receptions. Tap dance items were given, and supper dishes suitable (o the occasion wero served. • ■ . Miss Stark wore a frock of green georgette with insets of gold lace and an apple-green velvet coatee. The rival princesses, Miss Nancy Olphert and Miss Phyllis Oliver, wero present, also- Messrs. Stewart and Cusack, of the carnival committee.
