"CHASIN' THE BLUES"
BRIGHT REVUE
The audience iv the Town. Hall Con-i cert Chamber last night seemed to enjoy-, thoroughly every one of the thirty or moro items which went towards- the. making up of the programme of "Chasm' the Blues," a revue produced; by David Lievitt, with the help of members of the Wellington Musical Comedy and Dramatic Society. Unlike the curate's egg, which was only good in parts, this revue kept up the same standard of excellence throughout, and aimed at being of the non-stop variety. After the rectification of a few inevitable first-night hiatuses, this objective should be achieved. Songs, dances, sketches, and the other items usually found in this style of entertainment followed each other in quick succession, and considering the limitations of tho stage, wonderfully good effects were attained in the enoembles. A dozen or so vocalists of both sexes: contributed items, having in many instances a bright chorus' to assist them. Miss Kathleen Ferris and Mr. Bert "Hickford were the two vocalists who had: most to. do with the success of the revue. The dancing was a feature of the entertainment, some of the performers emulating Pavlova and the majority indulging in tap-dancing. Miss Kathleen Eeid was one of the best in> this section, but there were a number of other good dancers too who figured on the programme. A "Staircase Tap" was a very clever item. Several excellent sketches were presented during the evening, Cyril Tilly being the main dispenser of humour in these and in other parts of the programme. The ensembles, chorus, and ballet were outstanding and always vivacious, greatly assisting to make" the performance go with a swing from start to finish. The revue will be presented again tonight and tomorrow, the proceeds being in aid of the 'Wellington. Free Ambulance.
