INFLATION BIT SOKE
AFTER EASY MILE TRIAL
(Special to the "Eveninj Post.") PALMEESTON N., This Day. ' The .weather was fine for track work at Awapuni yesterday morning, though rain fell during the night ■ and early hours. The tracks were in good order, but the course proper . was slightly greasy.. . . . . • Awapuni's New Zealand Cup' candidate,. Inflation, was galloped a mile, with Henry of Navarre as a companion. The flags were- well out on the course, and the pair, wore together all the way to cut the distance out in linin 53sec. Inflation pulled up all right, but he appeared to bo a bit sore when. ho left the course. The pair were to leave for the south last evening. ■ Inf ation is big in condition but he has been working steadily, and if the race- is run to suit him he must be conceded a chance.. His performance in the A.J.O. Metropolitan, Avas good, and he would have only to improve a little on that form to be one of the hard ones to beat in Saturday's race. There are track watchers here, however, who will not have him as a Cup horse at any price. . ■ ■■ ■ Henry of Navarre looks particularly well after his Wellington, racing, and he is expected to be all the better for it when next he steps out. . .L. Knapp's trio, Eiotous, Senegal, and Hauwai left for Auckland last night, and the trip may be a profitable one for the stable. Eiotous and Senegal have gone on the right way since the Wellington Meeting, and Hauwai is a good place prospect in Saturday's Hunters' Steeplechase. They wero "restricted to pace work yesterday morning- , . Mercian .Prince has not been sent over to Woodville. yet, for ho was physicked when he returned from Wellington and has been, on the easy list for a few days. He is looking well ngain, however, a:nd the spell has done him no harm. ■•■■.. Hint and Blacksmith were galloped five furlongs separately, but they were not out after time. •■■■■■ . j Inveresk and Bodyline were sprinted three furlongs. Inveresk secured a break of, a couple of lengths at the start and the gap was still there when they got to the post. They were not under pressure to x\m the distance- in 42sec. ... ■'.•■.••■. ' : Sweet Mimic, in E. Watson's stable, the Laekham —Sleeping Beauty two-year-old in J. Coyle's stable, and. Te Bangitumau were gitfen barrier practice and. acquitted themselves well.
